Poindexter Down…Trouble for Vick (is a douchebag)?
Hopefully, most of you are as interested in the Michael Vick dog fighting investigation as I am…because I’m not going to stop writing about it.

Now, onto the most recent development.
From PFT:
In response to accusations from investigators that Surry County, Virginia prosecutor Gerald Poindexter is dragging his feet regarding the Mike Vick dog-fighting probe, Poindexter has decided to refer the case to the Virginia Attorney General.
(Maybe he was tired of getting all those phone calls and emails, after both pieces of contact information were posted on the intergooglewebnetseriesoftubes?)
So, who is this new guy on the case?
Bob McDonnell is Virginia’s Attorney General. He was elected in 2005, by a margin of 323 votes, out of a total of 1.9 million votes case. McDonnell is also considered to be one of the candidates to replace the sitting Governor in 2009. Unfortunately, because of this, how he decides to prosecute this case may have more to do with his gauge of the public opinion of Vick, then it does with the actual facts involved.
Hopefully, by this point, Vick’s approval rating should be plummeting. This may help ease the pressure on the Attorney General to be able to handle the case as he sees fair and just. Remember, as I wrote in my last update, it seems that there may be quite a few NFL players involved in the dog fighting subculture. This is an opportunity for the Attorney General, and the State of Virginia to show blind justice.
If you feel as passionately about this subject as I do, feel free to contact the office of the Virginia Attorney General.
In related news, the agent for Clinton Portis, Drew Rosenhaus, is in full damage control mode. As you recall, Clinton Portis recently made some rather damaging statements regarding the Vick case.
“I don’t know if he was fighting dogs or not, but it’s his property, it’s his dog,” Portis told WAVY-TV. “If that’s what he wants to do, do it.”
When the reporter pointed out that there dog fighting was a felony, Portis responded by saying, “It can’t be too bad of a crime. You want to hunt down over fighting some dogs, you know, I think people should mind their own business.”
He further added, “You take someone who is doing positive in the community, you take a positive role model and put him behind for no reason. You know, over a dog fight?”
Since that time, the Redskins have offered two statements regarding Clinton’s comments.
The first contained a one sentence non-apology from Portis, “In the recent interview I gave concerning dog fighting, I want to make it clear I do not take part in dog fighting or condone dog fighting in any manner.”
The second statement, issued only a day later, contained nothing from Portis. Stating only that, “The Washington Redskins, as an organization, obviously would never condone anything related to animal cruelty. The team takes the recent comments of Clinton Portis very seriously and apologizes to everyone that was offended.” An ironic apology for offensive remarks from an organization named the “Redskins.”
So, Drew Rosenhaus, being the super agent that he is, decided that he needed to find out what Clinton ‘really meant.’
“I talked to Clinton about it and he said, ‘Drew, I didn’t mean for the way that came out,’” Rosenhaus said. “I like the fact that Clinton stood up for another athlete, but I want to clarify that he in no way, shape or form condones dog fighting or any type of illegal activity. I spent the last day or so with Clinton trying to get that message out.”
Right. If Clinton Portis said he doesn’t think dog fighting is a big deal, he probably meant that he doesn’t think dog fighting is a big deal. He might be wise to come out an apologize for his remarks himself…but it probably wouldn’t matter then either, because his opinion on the matter has been made clear.
